By Night in Havana with Meiby • Arts Immersion Experience

The decision to spend Christmas in Cuba came as a shock to many friends and family. They truly could not wrap their heads around why I’d want to spend the holiday traveling solo in a foreign land. Meanwhile, I couldn’t think of a better thing to do!

I’d flown over Cuba many times but would finally stop to take in the mysterious Carribean island.

As a solo female traveler who often volunteers and teaches English abroad, I knew it would be a piece of cake to create my own people-to-people immersion experience in order to travel to Cuba. By Night in Havana, a 3-day arts immersion experience in Cuba was first on my list of things to do and see in Havana Cuba.

The cultural experience aligned perfectly with my travel dates. During the day, I’d tour Cuba like a Gringo. Come night, I’d blend with the locals for sophisticated fun with my beloved host, Meiby.

Cuba Arts Immersion

The 3-day arts immersion experience included a welcome dinner and party the first night. A small group of eight travelers would become fast friends over the next seventy-two hours.

On the rooftop of an intimate casa, all of us became acquainted over Cuban food and drinks before heading to Sia Kará Bar, a lively piano bar hang suite. Dinner and drinks are included throughout the night. While many performers pass through Sia Kará Bar, the highlight of our evening was definitely Meiby. Her humungous voice will make you do a double take!

Sia Kará Bar is a friendly venue where all are welcome. You’ll find straight, gay, and any combination in between having fun. No judgment zone in this Cuban nightspot.

Second Night in Havana Cuba

On the second evening of By Night in Havana, we painted the town nightclub hopping in Cuban Bohemia.

A fun-filled performance was up next at La Zorra y El Cuervo, a famous Cuban jazz club accessible via a red telephone booth! The club is not far from the infamous Malecón which started careers for many singers and musicians. Tonight, Cuban drinks were on Meiby as part of the total experience.

By Night in Havana Farewell Party

The third and final evening of By Night in Havana was nothing short of emotional. Saying goodbye to new friends after having so much fun was bittersweet. And, it was Christmas in Cuba. A holiday once banned in the Communist country.

On a Cuban rooftop, the final night of this arts immersion experience commenced. Magical performances, new friendships, and musical history set the tone. While I couldn’t partake in most of the dinner served (vegetarian problems), it was well presented and enjoyed by others. And, those Cuban drinks were spot on!

So, if you would like an authentic Cuban experience, you must check out By Night in Havana with Meiby and her friends. It is truly an unforgettable travel experience and by far the best way to spend $100 USD (at the time of this post, the price dropped to $85).

Enjoy the video above which captures a small glimpse into the fun we had!

  2. Ironically, I found your page in search of Meiby (just like the comment before mine). Anyhow, my trip is for my birthday, March 11th – 14th. I remember seeing the post for my particular dates a few days ago, but when I checked yesterday, it was sold out on Airbnb. If you have any information in regards to getting in contact with her, I’d greatly appreciate it.

    Warmest regards,

    Judith
